Meeting of the Policy Department (2018)

On the 6th December 2018, the Policy Department, chaired by Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Hong Tien - Vice Chairman and General Secretary of VWSA, held its year-end meeting.
 

 
Attending the meeting were also other VWSA Vice Chairmen and members of the Association's Policy Department. Mrs. Ha Thanh Hang - Head of Policy Department reported on the activities and results of the department in 2018 and proposed key activities for the year 2019.

The report showed that in 2018, VWSA actively contributed to consultations and recommendations on many important policies related to the water sector such as: Draft Law on clean water production, supply an consumption (Law on water supply); Regulations related to water sector management including standards, regulations, service prices, privatisation issues in the water sector; Draft Amending and Supplementing Circular No. 01/2008/TT-BXD, in which suggestions were made to various Ministries on shortcomings as well as difficulties and challenges in implementation of members; Master plans and projects related to water sector; Research and implementation of projects assigned to VWSA by the Ministry of Construction etc.

In addition, surveys and seminars were organized by VWSA Policy Department in 2018 helped collect and consolidate comments from members, and put into position papers sent to relevant government authorities. VWSA also successfully conducted field trips for experience and knowledge exchanges with other countries such as Finland, Hungary, Korea, Australia.

Based on the VWSA 2019 plan of activities and overall objectives of the water sector, the Policy Development proposed a number of key tasks to be implemented in 2019, e.g.  technical standards and specifications for drinking water, national program of preventing loss of clean water, the national program on water supply safety for the period 2016-2025, the issue of privatisation of water enterprises and fixing shortfalls in managing and implementing a number of tasks, study on and evaluation of typical cases for sustainable water management in rural areas, strengthening international cooperation for learning and sharing experiences on policy dialogue, organization of seminars and conferences with such topics as strengthening policy and institutional organisation for the whole industry.

In particular, in 2019, VWSA will develop a sector database with the most basic indicators for statistics, research, and evaluation works of its departments and members, at the same time for its future services in a timely and customer-driven manner.
