The training course on Operation and Maintenance of Drainage and Sewerage Network for wastewater operators in Southern Vietnam opened at Binh Duong Water Supply, Sewerage, and Environment Company (BIWASE) on 18 July, 2016. The training was organized by VWSA with the support of GIZ under the Wastewater Management Programme.
The training attracted the participation of 22 trainees who are technical staff from BIWASE, Water Supply and Sewerage Companies of Ben Tre and Can Tho, Ba Ria Vung Tau Drainage, Sewerage and Urban Development Company, Ho Chi Minh City Drainage and Sewerage Company. Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, VWSA Vice Chairman and BIWASE General Director, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuoi, Deputy Head of VWSA Training Division and Ms. Pham Thi Van Lan – GIZ Training Coordinator, the trainers and guests attended the opening ceremony of the training course.
The trainers of the course are experienced experts from wastewater management companies and lecturers from universities that have been selected and trained by German experts through the ToT courses of VWSA supported by GIZ.
Overview of the training course
During the two days of training, in both theoretical and practical aspects, on sewers cleaning and desludging, the trainees actively took part in discussion and practical sessions on issues related to operation and maintenance of drainage and sewerage network, namely:
- Basic knowledge on drainage and sewerage network and types of drainage and sewerage systems
- Elements of a drainage and sewerage network
- Safety and working safety during operation
- Knowledge and skills for operation and maintenance including incidents that often occur during operation of the network, skills for safe and efficient operation of the network.
After taking part in the training course, the trainees have had knowledge to support the technical staff of their companies in planning their daily work as well as had an overview to supervise the construction site of drainage and sewerage systems. In addition, they understood the key principles of demand-based operation and maintenance.
