Mr. Hanns-Bernd Kuchta, GIZ Programme Manager, receives Medals for the Cause of Construction Sector and Water and Wastewater Sector

On 29 May 2014, the Ministry of Construction and the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association co-organized an Awards Presentation Ceremony – Medal for the Cause of Construction Sector and Medal for the Cause of Water and Wastewater Sector – to Mr. Hanns-Bernd Kuchta, GIZ Programme Manager, upon the successful completion of his four-year term in Vietnam.

Mr. Kuchta has worked as Manager of the Cooperation Programme between Germany and Vietnam in urban planning. On behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development and for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Mr. Kuchta managed programmes on wastewater management and flood proofing and drainage for adaptation to climate change from 2010 to 2014.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Tien, Director General of the Administration of Technical Infrastructure (ATI), presented a summary report of Mr. Kuchta&;s achievements and contribution. During this four-year-term, Mr. Kuchta has made every effort and great contribution in supporting Vietnamese partners in improvements and developments of legal framework and policies related to drainage, sewerage and wastewater management. Through the activities of the Programmes, Mr. Kuchta has supported the provinces in implementing regulations on wastewater management as well as improved capacity for wastewater service providers towards sustainable development. Moreover, he has worked very closely with the Administration of Technical Infrastructure in preparing the proposal for Flood Proofing and Drainage for Medium-sized Coastal Cities for Adaptation to Climate Change which was later approved by the German Government and is now being implemented efficiently. In addition, he directly took part in the development of the proposal for Phase 4 of the Wastewater Management Programme for which the Government of Germany has committed to support until 2017.

At the Ceremony, Ms Neziraj Sabrije, Head of Administration and Finance of GIZ in Vietnam, said that the medals awarded to Mr. Kuchta were not only an honour for Mr. Kuchta but also highlighted the achievements gained under the cooperation between GIZ and MoC over the past ten years since 2005.

On behalf of the Ministry of Construction, the Vice Minister Cao Lai Quang appreciated the efforts and contribution made by Mr. Kuchta during his four years in Vietnam. He conveyed his congratulations to him for the two medals he was awarded by the Ministry of Construction and the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association as an acknowledgement and appreciation of Mr. Kuchta&;s great contribution to the construction sector and the field of water supply, wastewater and environmental sanitation and as the close and long-standing relationship between the Ministry of Construction and GIZ.

Mr. Kuchta expressed his sincere thanks to the leadership of MoC, ATI, VWSA and all Vietnamese partners and colleagues who have supported and cooperated with him and enabled him to fulfil his assignments. He also said that four years living and working in a friendly environment in Vietnam were a very happy time and shared some of the good memories of the country and people. Before leaving for his new assignment, he expressed his confidence that his successor would continue the close cooperation and receive strong support from MoC and other Vietnamese partners and wished for further efficient cooperation between GIZ and MoC.
