Malaysia, 19 – 21/3/2014 – Invited by the Management Board of Asia Water Resource 2014 Expo & Forum (ASIAWATER 2014), Assoc. Prof. Ung Quoc Dung – Vice Chairman of Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) has led a delegation to join the event.
Water has always been a precious commodity - the basic necessity for life - and with weather patterns changing because of climate change, it is set to be an even more precious commodity in the future. Drought is already alternating with serious flooding as weather patterns continue to be affected by growing industrialization in Asia region.
In addition, the water sector is contributing directly to climate change with high embodied energy that comes from pumping. Currently, 1.6 billion people live in countries and regions with serious water shortages, and that number is expected to rise to 2.8 billion by 2025. More than 80% of this problem is due to the world&;s ever-increasing population and modern on-going industrialization. In fact practically every developmental challenge of the 21st century - food security, managing urbanization, energy security, environmental protection and adaption to climate change requires urgent attention from water resource management and control.
To address these issues, ASIA WATER RESOURCE EXPO & FORUM (AWARE) was addressing the problems under the theme, “Water Security In Developing Asia”. AWARE 2014 was the right and an important platform that will bring together government officials, consultants / engineers, property developers, municipalities, farmers, architects, contractors, and industry experts from across the region to examine and source for new solutions and technologies. It was also the venue for the industry to network, learn and share experiences. Most importantly, the event provides technology suppliers and service providers with the best targeted platform to showcase their products and services to key decision makers.
The exhibition was a chance for Vietnamese water businesses to learn up-to-date technologies and equipment in the water sector, as well as considering the possibilities of applying in Vietnam. Under the framework of AWARE 2014, Assoc. Prof. Ung Quoc Dzung, on behalf of VWSA has a presentation on “Green initiatives for urban wastewater management in Vietnam”.
