Annual Meeting of the Technology Department of the VWSA

On 14 December 2018, in Hanoi, with support of DEVIWAS Project, the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association held the annual meeting of its Technology Department. The meeting worked on summary of its 2018 activities and 2019 working agenda. The conference was chaired by Mr.  Cao Lai Quang, the VWSA Chairman.
 

 
The meeting was attended by leaders of the VWSA including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ung Quoc Dung, Vice Chairman of the VWSA, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Anh – Head of the VWSA Technology Dept., Mrs. Ha Thanh Hang, Head of VWSA International and Policy Depts, Dr. Dong Xuan Thu- Deputy Editor-in-chief of the Vietnam Water and Sewerage Journal, as well as representatives from Water Supply Companies from Hanoi, Haiphong, and members of VWSA Technology Department. 

On behalf of the VWSA Technology Department, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Anh reported on its results of scientific and technological activities in 2018 and orientations for 2019; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Ha further reported on the results of the Water Supply, Sewerage and Environmental Research Institute.
 

In 2018, under the leadership of the Association's leaders, the Technology Department has carried out many activities, the focal point of them the selection of 31 typical water supply Works that were announced and given awards at  the 30th Anniversary of the VWSA. The Technology Dept. actively contributed to international and national conferences, seminars, consultancy councils, and peer review of science and technology issues. It also focused on its bridging role between the VWSA members and training centres and research institutes nationwide, as well as boot-up technology transfer activities so as to help enhance VWSA overall members capacity on technology and management.
 

Working on the 2019 agenda, delegates deliberated on focuses and concerns in term of scientific and technological issues for water sector such as water supply quality and security, technical specifications and standards for water supply and materials/equipment, new emerging technologies and solutions, etc. catering for Industry 4.0. The discussions also went on the contribution of the VWSA Technology Department for the Vietnam-Germany Water Forum to be held in March 2019 in Hanoi, further research and studies on waste water treatment and wide spread of their results through international, national conferences, publishing on the VWSA journals, etc.

In conclusion, Chairman Cao Lai Quang expressed his appreciation and gratitude for all efforts and considerable 2018 achievements of members despite of many difficulties such as time constrain and scare human resource.  He gave several directions for the 2019 focus including further revision of technical specifications and standards, technology transfer promotion through twinning programmes, contributions to VietWater Exhibitions and big events in 2019, printing a manual on technologies for drainage and waste water treatment, recommendations on water sources pollution, as well as institutional restructure and enhancement of the Technology Department, etc.
